Time
My word for 2024 was completion. Maybe it should have been incomplete … I didn’t check much off the list I had in mind.
And that was a GREAT thing. Who needs a list when God already has a plan?
First Things First: Celebrating the First Lady
I started the new year wishing my grandmother a happy 90th birthday along with four generations of family. January 1 is always a special day for me because it’s all about my grandmother. She has poured so much into me and I am grateful for having her in my life.
After vacation comes real life: The bulk of my spring semester was dedicated to teaching and dissertation proposal work, and then I proceeded to have the best summer of my life because I COULD! Fall was consumed school, work, and trying to make history: I hit the campaign streets for the Harris/Walz ticket, determined to help by volunteering, phone banking, sharing information, and being in community with others via local and online forums. The Cobb Democrats hosted several opportunities for education and advocacy, and I am grateful for their leadership. Despite the efforts of people across the country, we were met with a heartbreaking political disappointment. I wrote this as a coping mechanism.
Big Changes, Major Moves
I feel like this year flew by but when I take a moment to reflect, I think about my family. I often tell people about my family and how we really LIKE each other. It’s nothing for us to gather at somebody’s home for a gathering. Lots to eat and drink, laughter, memories, and more … it never gets old. Some families don’t get along … I can’t relate! They are my favorite people, especially my two younger nephews. They are growing up so fast, and I love spending time and creating memories with them. I also love feeling like a tourist, always discovering new places to go, events to attend, and ideas that keep spinning in my head on how to improve the community. I’ve been in Georgia 20 years … perhaps a permanent homecoming is in the cards.
Don’t Be Ashy
But, for now, I am continuing to moisturize. It’s essential, y’all. You’ll also find me with my boyfriend – the library – as I continue to chip away at dissertation things. I was considering sunsetting The Lassiter Firm, LLC … it’s not off the table, but I will be making different moves in 2025.
One thing that won’t change will be selecting a word to guide my year. For 2025, that word is time. I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
Happy new year, and thank you for reading.
