A very necessary museum to tell OUR stories.

When we say Black history is 24/7/365 and the leap

When we say Black history is 24/7/365 and the leap days ... we mean it.

I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Dr. India Jackson (@astronomical_beauty), the first Black woman to earn her Ph.D. in physics from Georgia State University. I was at an awards ceremony/Women's History Month program and didn't know I was sitting next to an icon until she stood up and headed to the stage to get her award. Her story is one of resilience, vision, and passion.

I love winning awards, and it's even sweeter when

I love winning awards, and it's even sweeter when it's a team effort. The Georgia Communication Conference (@georgia_comm_assoc) took place at the @uwestga #GoWest

Fun fact: I've been teaching at UWG since 2021 (online asynchronous) and this was my first time on the campus! I will be attending the conference for the foreseeable future -- it's such a good community and there is so much emphasis on mentoring, pedagogy, service and academia.

I had the pleasure of speaking three times: The first session was with my girl/role model/academic advisor/classmate Lauren. We met in Fall 2019 when we started this Ph.D. journey, and she asked me if I wanted to join her for a post-election conversation. "Twice As Good: Black Women and the 2024 Election" was one of the first sessions of the day, and we were thrilled to learn that we won the "Top Student Presentation" award!

I also presented a paper about public displays of Black maternal grief and racial stereotypes and joined another group of classmates for a workshop about disrupting the norms of academic research. Between taking the "stage," learning from other presenters, and meeting some of my UWG colleagues in person, this was an amazing experience. GCA is the conference that keeps on giving. #bestconferenceever
